Motivation for fatcats.

20k in the bag. Going for shower now. I feel I could have gone on longer, in a comfortable gait as I approached the house, but I didn't have the mental reserves to pass my own gate after running for 2 hours 16 mins. Maybe if I'd come up a different route...but no matter. Feeling good. Going to eat a really large homemade burger now with onion and cheese and lashings of ketchup after my shower... mmmm. Me so hungeee.

Interesting note: I was listening to Depeche Mode's Enjoy the Silence as I was running my last K when my ipod battery ran out. Egad! So I did.

Other note. I notice my abs really tense up over long distance. I know I'll feel them tomorrow. Does this happen to anyone else?

It's quick enough for a training run, Fmc.

And I reckon sore abs means working core means more efficient and fluid running style, particularly as fatigue kicks in.

Or maybe it's all that pre-fueling with ale and ice cream. Eeek!

Hi FMC
If I go out to run 2 hours I also can't run a minute longer. It's like I calibrate my brain to do something and it just does that, no more no less (kinda scary). Well done on the long run. Feeling good after it is such a good sign of your fitness.
I always have a sore upper body, abs, arms and back after a long run. I think it's cos I hold my arms quite high?

Eeek is right. Come October the old ale is going to have to go the way of the rum. But that still gives me this weekend!
You could be right about the core, I suppose it's automatic that you tense as you run, plus my breathing is much better these days on the longer runs so maybe I'm paying more attention to other things. I just thought it felt odd to me, especially in the last kilometre or so.
Thanks as always for your input Gimmie.

My God, woman! I thought you'd won that there lottery whatsit with yer talk of 20k in the bag and all.

You ran for 2 hours and 16 minutes?! Have you sold your soul to the goddess Nike in exchange for your reason? Blimey, your thigh muscles must be rock hard and your bum high and taut and your cardiovascular system in tiptop nick and your cheeks all aglow with glowy health. Hmm - where does this Nike chick hang out then?

Really though, that's terrific! A couple of months ago you were doing 10k and now 20 and "I feel I could have gone on longer..." Well done - you've stuck with it and put all of us -and when i say all of us I mean me - to shame.

And not to worry about ab cramps "Tense abs make for perky tums and boobs," as my uncle used to say to me. Filthy old perv.

Eek missus we crossed. I hold my arms about mid rib cage height. Is that too high? I"ve got a bit of an ache in the upper abs and a knot like feeling right between my shoulders. Oddly enough my legs feel fine.

Sam! Allow me to do that in a Frodo styleeeee.
SAAAMMMMM!
Oh missus! You're alive! I was so worried, which sounds odd when you consider we've never met and so on, but there you go. Huzzah for not dead cyber friends. Huzzah I say. What in the word happened?

It's not over exercising, it's just whatever way I hold myself when I run. It only every happens after a long run. I just wondered did it happen to other long distance runners.

20K -- well done. sometimes you do need a break to enjoy the silence.

my abs get sore as well but usually after hard workouts. maybe it's more effort- than time-related? bec running for 2.25 hours is def an effort unless you're kenyan.
