Motivation for Facats and possibly Fatcat Chumlies!

Top of the Satdee to you Chumlies! And a bright and warm Satdee it is too. Can this be it? Has spring sprung? I bloomin' well hope so and I haven't jinxed it my mentioning it.
A peculiar week in term of exercise, too much work an not enough time to do other stuff.
However, I have -in my mind anyway- started to train for the Dublin City Marathon '08. Even going as far as to NOT drink lots of delicious hooch.

Monday, Ran 10k with CG in the phoenix park, we were trying out the route for the BUPA Great run. There are two hills, one short and sharp, the other longer and slower. But we went around quite well and we had plenty in the tank at the end of it.

Tuesday -nowt, working.

Wednesday- good day, 40 pull ups with the grav at 25k counter weight, added 5 on the end at 20k. Felt the difference but nothing terrible.
25k bench x 10x3
Flys 6kx 10 x3
And then, a la cross fit, 8000m runs x 4 for time. 2 min rest between each run
1-4mins 15
2- 3 mins 55
3- 4 mins 28 ( also thought I was going to be sick, so I slowed right down)
4- 3 mins 40- this was hard but totally worth it. Next time I do this I hope to be faster.

Thursday, - Short 6k run,

Friday- One hour rowing, 12.25 kilometres. ( as an aside, to anyone trying to lose weight, rowing, -if you have access to a machine- EATS calories. If you can incorporate even 15-20 minutes of rowing into your workout it's a really good overall exercise)

Using the pull down machine,

Lats- 25kx8
tricep 30x8
Biceps 35kx8
repeat three times.

Squats, oh I hates squats and squats hate me. 18k weight on shoulders, 10x3 (this is my very worst exercise)
Gym walk, 40k, three laps. Easy.

Next week I'm going to up a few weights. It might be good or I might balls it up, but I feel I'm getting much stronger so I might as well try it out.

Again I just want to say good luck to everyone doing marathons, runs and races this weekend, may you triumph and stay injury free. I hope you all get the best of of yourselves and the day.

I thought the idea, with weight training, was to increase the reps NOT the weight, helps to condition the muscles not make them bigger. But what do I know? Good luck for tomorrrow, and don't start too near the back of the field

Thanks Sam.
Don't worry Stipes, I learned my lesson the hard way last year.
As for the weights, I prefer to lift more weight and less reps, I"m trying to build shape and definition, plus I want to be able to do simple things like pull ups and press ups, and god damn it, a handstand.

I've been hearing such good things about the rowing machine from everywhere lately...am I going to have to give up and go to the gym after all?

Sunday 5.3 miles! In 60 minutes flat! Wooooo!
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday yoga.
Tuesday, ran awful 2 miles in heavy wind.
Wednesday biked 5 miles
Meant to run on Thursday but biked instead to a friend's house 6 1/2 miles and didn't have the time or energy to spare for a run.
Free weights on arms throughout, also lunges and pushups every time I was waiting on water to boil or the oven to preheat.

Today painting another room, laying new floor, and yoga planned.

Have a good time running!

i vaguely remember my intent to work out this week... but by the time i walked into the lab on monday morning, it was a whirlwind. i'm under a big deadline, that unfortunately puts me in the lab close to 24/7. i've promised myself that once the deadline has passed (april 17th) i will be a devout gym-goer.

as for spring, i woke up to whirling winds and massive snowfall. spring is just a myth i've heard about around here.

Good luck with it tomorrow! (You are racing tomorrow right?) Might be worth bringing an old jumper to throw away if you want to get on the start line early. It's cold out there today...brrrrrr...

My week

Monday - 90 mins bike wattage training, followed by 20 minute run

Tuesday - 3000 metre swim, all speed sets.

Wed - 90 mins bike wattage training, followed by 20 minute run.

Thursday - 3500 metre swim, long sets.

Friday 40 minute run, with 6 x 15sec hill sprints.

Sat - hilly 50 mile bike ride along gorgeous Highway 1 to Stinson beach, north of San Francisco.

Tomorrow I have a 2.5 hr bike ride and 30 minute run, and for the first time no break between weeks. These are my heavy weeks, but in 2 weeks Tash and I go to Mexico for 5 days, (no kids! including 2 days surfing), so I will get some rest, then the final week before I taper.

A good week again for the working out doings.

Each workout is mostly the same, 30-50 minutes on the elliptical, doing a preset interval workout - then various ab wheel stuff, lunges, squats, bicep curls, tricep curls, balance ball stuff. Alternating between leg stuff, arm stuff and ab stuff on different days.

So - Tuesday AM was 40 mins. elliptical, ab wheel, some butt crunches. Then a bonus workout after work - 30 mins. elliptical and some yoga stretches.

Wednesday 40 mins. elliptical, lunges, squats, other leg stuff (various lifts, kicks, etc.)

Thursday 30 mins. elliptical, ab wheel, tricep curls, bicep curls, a few yoga moves to cool down.

Friday - rest.

Saturday - 60+ minutes elliptical and all the other stuff, for good measure. All 3 zones, legs, abs, arms - through two CD's worth of music. I was drenched.

Today, as soon as I have a little food and it digests a bit, I'll probably do the same again. THEN a ton of yard work. Then collapsing in a useless heap and falling asleep in front of the TV.
