IVF Twins Abandoned because of Gender.

Wow, some people just shouldn't be allowed have children. Surely if you put yourself through the pain and difficulty of IVF to conceive you would be over joyed to have two healthy babies, regardless of whether they are male of female. But apparently not.
Observe, from today's Sun.

"A BRITISH couple abandoned their newborn IVF girl twins at a hospital – because they wanted boys.

The mum aged 59 and dad, 72, conceived in India with fertility treatment and returned to England for the birth.

They told horrified medics they did not want the “wrong sex” babies immediately after the Caesarean section in Wolverhampton.

The husband then asked how soon it would be before his wife was fit enough to fly out again for further IVF in the hope of getting a boy to continue the family name.

An NHS insider told The Sun: “Everyone is utterly appalled. How could any parent do this?

“This is Britain in the 21st century.

“But they just weren’t prepared to raise these two beautiful girls.”

Female babies are often abandoned in India for being the wrong sex – but it is the first time here. It will send shockwaves of revulsion through multi-cultural Britain.

The parents were born in India but are British citizens living in Birmingham.

They had fertility treatment in India as it is illegal here at at such an advanced age.
Advice

The twins were delivered at the New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton.

They were then transferred to a central NHS hospital in Birmingham. The parents are still believed to be in the city.

The babies have had NO visitors since being born less than a fortnight ago.

The mother – one of Britain’s oldest – discharged herself against the advice of doctors who told her she should stay for more than a week after her operation.

Birmingham Social Services department said it was investigating."

That's just utterly depressing. Poor little babies. They've done nothing wrong except exist and not have a winkle.

UPDATE: There may be less to this story that the Sun would have us believe.

'A hospital today denied claims that a couple who had received IVF in India had then dumped their twin babies after finding out they were both girls.

It had been claimed that the mother aged 59 and the father 72, had abandoned the babies after telling medics they were the 'wrong sex' because they wanted boys.

However Wolverhampton hospital today said that the parents were being 'attentive' to the babies' needs .

A spokesman said: "The parents are visiting their daughters whilst they are being cared for in hospital and are attentive to their needs."

Of course this is from the Daily Mail, the Telegraph has also pulled the story.

That's terrible. And it will be terrible press for IVF which a lot of naysayers will latch on to. Most people who have to go through IVF would be happy with a 3 headed hemaphrodite.

Agreed John, it's sickening to see IVF abused in this manner. Also 72 and 59? WTF?

There's so much wrong with this story, and with these people, and with whatever fucked up systems prop up their believing that their precious babies are disposable.

This is a head-wrecking case and I don't mind saying it's got me teared up. And they want to try again for a boy? They're not fit to be parents. They're fucking monstrous. God, these poor little girls.

Jail 'em. Can you imagine what would have happened if one was male and the other was female?

I'm fast coming to the opinion, right or wrong, that if people move to another country and choose to become citizens that that status be conditional on their acceptance and adherence to that country's traditions and culture. Any deviation and deportation should be the response.

It's a very heartless ting they've done. I don't know understand their attitude at all. To disregard flesh and blood over gender? Don't get it, can't comprehend it at all.

Unbelievable. I'm sure we all know people going through IVF (I know John has 1st hand experience), and know the pain of longing for a child and the medical journey it involves.

These people are beasts, and at their age you'd think they'd know better.

They should be named and shamed for being so despicable.

Agreed. I know of one couple who are going through IVF a third time, reading things like this makes me very fucking mad indeed.

That is seriously shocking. How can the parents be so heartless and inhumane? It's really sent a shiver down my spine.

I don't understand it either Sheepie, you'd think at their age they'd be absolutely delighted to be able to have children at all.

Maybe the girls had a lucky escape? In that hopefully some loving couple will be able to adopt them and give them a good home.
This couple is obviously a couple from hell - no heart, no soul, no compassion, and selfish f*ckwits. It depresses me to think there exist people like that in this world. Unbelievable story. They could do with a bit of Sharon Stone's bad karma vibes...

I'd prefere girls to be honest but I am sure the arrival of a happy and healthy baby boy would change my mind. The age of the dirty auld fuckers anyway, it is probably a good thing they gave them up, now they have a chance of finding a loving home for them. If there is a God then the least she can do is make sure that heartless bitch doesn't get up the duff again.

Clearly they should be refused any further IVF treatments, and left to die childless and alone. Maybe violently.

They certainly don't deserve another crack at it in my view.

Clipping hedges and mowing lawns is sterling work when you have a robin named Napoleon for company. He's so brave and bold. When I was emptying the mower he perched on the center bar to watch me, and on the clothes line twittering to himself when I was raking up the clippings, most amusing. He must feel safer there when I'm about, no magpies, even though he's not exactly afraid of them. Funny little chap. I am charmed by him.

The Times has a report saying it might not be true (one can only hope! It does seem a bit strange though - why go to to all that trouble and expense at the age of 59, and not also make sure that the embyros were male??)

Anyway, apparently they were moved to be closer to their parents' home, and they are still in hospital because they need medical attention, and they are being visited.

When I was in the lawn mowing business the cats used to come out and roll in the clippings. Their innate primitive brains had issues with the flex - it was obviously a snake and had to be approached with utmost caution. The robins stayed well away.

I really really hope it's not true. That would restore my faith in humans a bit.

Conan, our cats hate the mower/hoover and vamoose as soon as it's hauled out. But the magpies here are losing the run of themselves, they really are. They ahve the smaller birds terrorised.
Right, off I go to rake up the clippings. Catch y'all later.

Like at 59 and 72 years old you have sooooo much choice, right?

How stupid are they? Do they think they have YEARS ahead of them to continue trying the IVF lottery until miraculously they produce boys?

If you've called your robin Napolean, expect some trouble. He'll act up to live up to it. He'll be a self-fulfilling robin, innit?

I love Robin's they are so bossy, I’d say they have unmerciful rows with their others half’s. It is cool knowing that they are not confined and having the freedom to go wherever they please they are happy to stay in your garden with you.

Shocking story but as seems to have main source as the Sun have my doubts about the veracity! But if true, shouldn't the ''parents'' have been prosecuted for wilful neglect/ abandonment ? Surely NHS / British police wouldn't condone the treatment of baby girls as waste babies ?

Your robin companion sounds v. cute. Have this image of one wing being tucked inside mini military jacket complete with gilt epaulets!

Given the ages of the proud parents and the fact that IVF was the means, wouldn't you think that Mommy Dearest might have been subjected to intense medical scrutiny? As in, the embryos would have been sexed fairly early on?

Smells fishy....

There may be a problem with the husband or the wife, but it mustn't be a reason to stop you from having children of your own. Thanks to today's modern inventions and technologies, it has now become possible for an infertile couple to bear their own children.
