Flora Mini Marathon day!

Huzzah and top of the morning to you. It's another sunny glorious day in dear old Dublin and in a few hours the Flora Mini Marathon will be under way and I will be huffing my way around it, attempting a PR of about 55 mins. The fact that I'm slow as a drunken sloth notwithstanding, it should be a cracking day. The atmosphere at this particular race is unreal, 40,000 ladies of all ages, sizes, physicalities and nationalities all ready to run or walk the 10k, most of us in the name of a charity. It's a really nice way to spend an afternoon.
Just laughing at my goody bag I received with my bib number. it's a curious mix of freebies, for example this year we have Scholl Cracked heel repair cream, useful. Vanish Oxi Action Magnets, er, okay. Ocean Spray Cranberry and Raspberry fruit drink, yummy. Chocolate, the paramour can have that, Benefiber powder, say what now? Surf small and mightt liquid detergent, hmmm beginning to see a pattern, vasoline with aloe vera, okay useful, small tub of Nivea, useful, deodorant that makes me gag, not exactly useful, Velvet crunch crisps, nom-nom, Spatone, 100% liquid Iron Supplement, oh mega gag, Adidas postcards, humm, okay, and my personal favourite a purple plastic water container that straps around your wrist, from VHI healthcare. Oh and a load of advertising, and a Big AL's recipe booklet. Big AL's? Really?
Right ho, off to have a carb breaky of wheataflakes and skimmed milk, then I need to make up my music list. Did I mention it was sunny? Oh somedays it's just good to be alive and kicking.

Man, you really cleaned up with the goody bag. All we got was a t-shirt, a pen, and some coupons for local businesses. The plastic bag itself was a better score than the contents.

Good luck today! As soon as my legs stop aching, I'm going to get back out there and try to inch closer to :55 myself...

Leave that old PR in the dust, fmc! Stomp on it, cry "Ha!" and turn to greet your shining new PR.

Good luck!

I haz medal, but I don't think I haz 55 mins. Got there at 2:30 and even at that I was miles back in the crowd, actually behind a wheel chair! Too many people, and oh my god what a crush. Wasn't really running until after Shelbourne Road and that was the 3k mark, had a kilometre and a half of a skippity around the crowd run and then another bottle neck at Nutley lane. People were actually complaining and giving out to runners s trying to get past and where as last year you coudl sort of squeeze past on the footpaths, this year nobody would give you an inch.
Sort of frustrating but one we were past the water station at 7k I was much free-er and able to run, and I felt good and strong, but alas my lack of a fe higher gears probably didn't help me make up much ground, even if I did finish strong and in good form. Oh well, maybe this particular race is not the one to be watching for time, I have the adidas road races coming up soon, a 5/10/13 miles, with actual runners.

One thing I just want to say, to all the women who cheated at Nutley Lane and skipped over the barriers onto Stillorgan Road, thus leaving out the entire Belfield Flyover- almost 1.5 kilometres of the race- what a disgusting bunch of cheating skanks you are. Especially those of you who were raiing money and I'm looking at you from The Alzheimer's society of Ireland. Really really poor form. Why even bother enter into a race if you're going to cheat like that. Boo to you, boo and indeed hiss. I know it was hot, I know the crowd probably held you back, but we were all in the same boat. Really really disgusting shoddy tactics. You shouldn't get a medal, and you certainly don't represent your counties or charities well.

Well done. You are right, big races unless with wave starts are never the best for getting a PB.

I guess so. Still can't get over the fact that people were cheating. I mean in a 10k charity race??
Anyhoo, off into town for food and I believe I will be having a drink or two, despite my supposed dry spell. I am VELLY pink too. Quite hot today. My farmer tan is getting quite pronounced.

You are a nutter. I could never do a race like that I am claustrophobic. I can’t understand the cheaters either you should have brought your other half with you to trip them up. I can only imagine the little pikies, “He’yer Marion jus get over de bar’rier for yer man sees uusss, comeon will yis”. Ah but seriously they could hardly feel a sense of pride or achievement, how they will have the balls to collect their sponsorship is beyond me. Well done anyway even if you didn’t meet your target finish time, doing it for charity was a rather selfless way to spend your bank holiday. Well done.

Well done, the cat! It's a pity about the crowds but I guess it's good so many people showed up to do it.

I can't believe people were cheating. What a load of crap that is. You be proud of your pinkness! It was honestly earned. If they were pink it was probably the shame of being such lousy cheats in a charity run.

Enjoy your food and drink tonight - you've earned it.

How frustrating to be stuck in a mob scene and unable to run, FMC.
But congrats on your well-earned medal all the same.

Those dirty bitches should be ashamed of themselves for cheating!

yep thank Medbh, I should have remembered how packed it was last year, but for some reason I didn't. And those women should be throughly ashamed but I bet they weren't. I was telling the paramour last night that there were people smoking and eating as they make their way around a 'grueling' 10 k course. I mean come on.

You just named all the reasons I don't run this event any more. My first time I got there 2 hours before to get a place up front. Even then it's not pleasant, hemmed in for two hours with no way to go to the toilet or stretch or warm up.
You should pick a race maybe in the business houses league or something smaller and go for your time. The Flora WMM is not a PB event. I know you would also love the mountains if you gave them a go. If you ever fancy it let me know! :-) Well done FMC, it's just lucky it didn't put you off running for life!!

(And you got a decent goody bag, yay!) ;-)

It's a lesson learned Aisling. I'll worry about my times in the Adidas races in the park, starting in July.

I drop a leave a response each time I especially
enjoy a post on a website or I have something to contribute to the conversation.
It's a result of the sincerness communicated in the article I read. And on this post "Flora Mini Marathon day!". I was actually moved enough to leave a commenta response ;-) I do have a few questions for you if it's okay.
Could it be just me or do a few of the remarks look as if they are coming
from brain dead individuals? :-P And, if you are posting at additional
sites, I would like to follow everything new you have to post.
Could you list the complete urls of all your communal sites like your linkedin profile, Facebook
